The website, which went live at 8 a.m. Monday, April 10, allows residents to create a profile and have options presented to them based on their individual needs. Through the program, which aligns with the city's Strategic Housing Implementation Plan, social workers can help people search for homes and recommend the most cost effective choices.
“Housing Base empowers residents to search for housing based on the unique needs of a family beyond price and location,” said Veronica Garcia, Director of Neighborhood and Housing Services. “Having options allows a family to keep positive momentum as they make one of the most important decisions – where to call home.”
Housing Base is being described as a "longer-term strategy and solution" to help San Antonio residents find the best options based on qualifications such as community amenities, and proximity to locations like grocery stores, public parks, health care facilities, and public transit. In addition those in San Antonio can locate housing that accepts Housing Choice Vouchers, or find options that are flexible with history of evictions or specific criminal records.
