Even as San Antonio's residential real estate market cools, average cost of house rises

SAN ANTONIO - What used to be a sizzling San Antonio real estate market has slowed down over the past few months.

"It's still a sellers market in my opinion but I think it’s been a little bit more fair to buyers recently," says Lucas Trevino, a realtor with Phyllis Browning Co.

"I think sellers are more willing to list at this point. Before there was a lot of unknowns and they wondered where they were going to go after selling their property."

New numbers from the San Antonio Board of Realtors back him up.

While residential sales have declined the past four months compared to last year, the average price of a home here is now at a robust $395,000.

"If you find something you want, house prices are not going to go down," says Tracie Hasslocher, SABOR board chairman. "Our price per square foot in the past year has gone up 35 percent to $186 per square foot."
